In every industry, you can encounter toxic people, affecting other employees’ morale and performance. I am sure you all know at least one person who falls into this category. It can be your colleague, manager, CEO. We often call them ‘jerks,’ without analyzing the root cause of their behaviors. Those ‘jerks,’ often very talented, are company culture crashers. The best approach from an organizational standpoint is to either fire or isolate the troublesome employee. Those two solutions will be obvious and implementable if your firm has a healthy culture. However, there are many companies out there with diseased cultures (recent Uber HR scandal as an example), and no intention to change it.
